Your Career Isn’t Stalled—It’s Waiting for You to Realign

When your career no longer reflects your priorities, strengths, or ambitions, progress can feel uncertain. You may be performing well while questioning whether the work still fits who you have become.

Workplace conditions and access to opportunity matter. Alongside those realities, it is useful to examine alignment: the relationship between your current responsibilities and the direction you want to pursue.

Assess What Still Fits

You may have outgrown a role, developed interests you have not yet explored, or begun doubting capabilities you have already demonstrated. Before deciding to leave or start over, identify what has changed.

Ask yourself: Which responsibilities use my strengths? What kind of contribution do I want to make next? What conditions would make that work sustainable?

Build on What You Already Bring

A new direction does not always require starting from the beginning. Your experience, relationships, and transferable skills can inform the next step. Identify where they remain relevant and where additional preparation is needed.

In my work with women navigating career change, this reflection helps distinguish a need for growth within a role from a need to pursue a different opportunity.

Choose One Practical Next Step

Write down one aspect of your work that fits your goals and one that needs to change. Then choose a manageable action: discuss development opportunities, research a potential role, update your résumé, or speak with someone working in a field you are considering.

You do not need to resolve your entire career today. You need enough clarity to make the next decision with intention.
